My Art Start

I started drawing when I was in the 8th grade. Of course it was all anime-style. I remember reading the tutorial at polykarbon while watching Escaflowne on Fox Kids. For the next few years, I drew as much as possible. Most of them have been lost time unfortunately. And equally as unfortunate, I kinda stopped drawing as much after I left high school. I tried to pick it back up years later, but that spark never lasted long. I would even buy art supplies cuz I thought I'd really get back into it like when I was kid.

Then in the latter half of last years (2025), I was feeling creative and decided to have another go at it. I went to the art store and bought art supplies and started drawing.

As you can see, I was incredibly rusty, but I perservered, determined to get better.

And I did.

All of those previous ones were made using Procreate on iOS. I had gotten tired of lugging around my art supplies and wanted to make things simpler for me. So I bought an older Apple Pencil and started doing digital art. And that really opened up things for me. I started coloring! It was basic ass coloring, but still, I was coloring. Naturally, I had to keep coloring...

The one on top looks like Lil D, a black pornstar, to me.

Anyway, I tried my had at portraits. You can definitely see their likeness. I'm proud of them, but I could do better with the coloring. Still, it helped me learn more.

I had my fill of celebrity portraits and wanted to go back to the more anime style I usually do. I had also looked at pieces from other artists and seeing their individual styles. So I thought to myself, why don't I try developing my own style. Before this, I was using the Loomis Head and everything. I was trying to get the proportions just right (and failing sometimes) before I started doing all of the detail. But after seeing how some mangaka would start their drawings with a toe or finger and going from there. I was used to doing a bootleg Loomis Head I learned from polykarbon. But there had been times when I would doodle faces using a cross to start off. I would just make faces that felt right to me, but I would never complete them with a head or hair or ears. It was always just the facial features.

I returned to that and then finished their heads

Mission Hill, the top one, is the last artwork I've done. I don't know why, but he just looks like a character that could appear in Mission Hill to me.

Reina, the one on the bottom, is my true pride and joy. I used one of the win poses for Reina in Tekken 8, but other than that, she's all my style. I'm very proud of her and the coloring I did on her.

I haven't drawn anything in the last few weeks. Haven't felt the spark. Just happens sometimes. I want to get back into it, of course. It's a very fulfilling hobby. It's definitely something AI bros won't experience with their prompting exercsies.

There's a lot more duds I've drawn over these last few months, but I didn't want to share them. I mostly wanted to show the progress I made. Hopefully, I continue to improve. Of course, that means I have to keep drawing. When I get done with my next piece, I'll post it here. And excuse any typos, I'm tired
